Colorful chemistry

In the thesis, we make our own natural indicator of red cabbage and determine the ranges of color of the red cabbage indicator. An indicator is a compound or ion whose color changes within a certain pH range or changes the color of the test solution at its equivalence point.

There are several different indicators for different uses. Many indicators can be produced directly from natural materials. In addition to red cabbage such natural indicators include tea, blueberry, rhubarb and beet. The color of the prepared indicator is examined with acidic and basic substances.

The color changes of various plants and substances are compared to the table below and examined whether the solution is acidic, neutral or alkaline.
