Smart experiences for the SMART DAY at Liceo “C. Finocchiaro Aprile”

November 10 is the “World Science Day”. To celebrate it, our project launched the “SMART DAY”. Since November 10 was on a Saturday, we decided to continue this “celebration” for more than a week with different activities. It was a busy experience for the school because students and teachers, thinking about the relationship between Science and daily life, realized little scientific experiments. This is the first, called “The bubbles of lava”, that reminded us of our volcano  called Etna.

Simple ingredients and a little jar can create a chemical reaction!

Two funny Science experiments made at school by the students of the 5 Au and the teachers of Science and English:

a very very big “cup of tea” and a strange egg, a “rubber egg

Restoration work in Santissimo Salvatore, Palermo

After a couple of  months from the Italian course “Architecture and restoration”, today our students had the pleasure to visit again the Santissimo Salvatore church in Palermo. We saw again its restored frescoes. During that week, we had the pleasure to meet the  restorers who explained us what techniques they were using. At that time the frescoes were scarcely visible because they were hidden by the scaffolding … today we can see them in all their beauty.

Italian memories of the Spanish course: padlet and video

Who is the travel diary for?  In our case, it’s a simple resource for our students to share – with other students or friends – notes, adventures, stories, memories and all they want to remember about the trip.

During this Spanish experience our students had the possibility not only to learn a lot about the course but also to appreciate the country’s culture, customs and people. By having a travel diary, now they can keep all these new experiences and knowledge in one place where they can reflect on them.

Our students decided to remember and share their experience in different ways. The paddlet contains the travel diary of Chiara R.; Alice G. and Francesca G. while decided to share a video. You will see the lists of the ‘top moments’ or ‘the best bits’ of our experience.

Thanks Chiara, Alice and Francesca

Smart goes to Zaragoza: presentations of the Italian students and posters of the mobility

We had a marvellous experience during the Spanish mobility in Zaragoza from the 27th of September to the 3rd of October 2018. Zaragoza welcomed us with a warm weather, a blue sky and a general atmosphere of exitement for the Next celebration of Nuestra Signora del Pilar.
All the schools introduced themselves and showed their interesting videos and presentations on the theme “Light, Lines, life”; after they were involved in teams in Seppo games around the city. They had the possibility to have the first conctact with the city and its main monuments and mudejar style.
The experience continued with a trip to the nearby mountain of Moncajo with a nice walk to admire nature and also the Cistercensian abbey. Tarazona offered the opportunity to reflect on an example of peaceful coabitation among Muslims, Christians and Jewish people.
The center of the Science Etopia  of Zaragoza offered us interesting workshops: stop motion and 3d design and Printing.
Activities at school on the use of light connected to photografy and the Origami Museum concluded our journey. The students were very happy to be involved in such a great experience!
The friendship started in Palermo moves on along with the project 🙂

Muchas gracias Zaragoza!

Summer Italian pictures: sunrises, sunsets from holidays

During their holidays, our Erasmus students, thinking to the next Spanish course, took pictures from all the Sicily. Here there are sunrises and sunsets.

Second LTT in Iceland: Italian preparatory works, meeting, travel diaries, photos and video

A marvelous experience

During the third mobility held in Reykjavik in Iceland from 09 to 15 April 2018 all the activities planned during the previous mobility in Palermo were carried out. In a first phase all the students of the partner countries presented videos on the Environmental Art; therefore, presentations were presented on some famous enviromental artists or on some sites where it was possible to identify the link between art and the natural enviroment. A visit to the Reykjavik Science Museum was also held during which the students had the opportunity to attend or take part in simple scientific experiments.

During some laboratory activities the students gathered in groups and created some artefacts, using recycled materials, such as cardboard, stones, wood, etc.

These activities made it possible to crate a positive atmosphere of collaboration; during the weeks the whole group took part in two guided tours during which it was possible to admire the beauty and the majesty of Icelandic nature

Islandic memories : travel diaries, photos and video

“Iceland presents itself as an unusual land, far from the European canons we are used to, both in terms of the landscapes and the environment and in terms of how people relate to society.
Very hospitable and cheerful, contrary to what one might think, Icelanders live a life marked by a very relaxed pace.
The tranquility that characterizes the capital, Reykjavik, is mind-blowing.
This increases considerably in the deserted lands of the so-called “Land of Ice”, where you experience the feeling of being part of the immense nature you are contemplating and, at the same time, perceive your infinite smallness in front of it.
The only word able to describe this country, and that contains all the feelings and emotions it arouses and the goodness of its people is MAGIC”

Thanks to my school I had the opportunity to participate in the Erasmus project and experience endless emotions.
The Erasmus project aims to bring different cultures together with the aim of conveying the idea that the diversity of customs and traditions is a heritage of each people.
The main objective of the project, in my opinion, is to build meaningful relationships between people of different nationalities. During the project we did many activities but the moment that I was most excited was when we all together did a dance inherent to their tradition.
I hosted an Icelandic girl, Oliwia, I was very fond of and with whom I shared moments that I will never forget.
We are still in touch and on both sides there is always the desire to meet again one day.”
