In order to celebrate the World Art Day, the girls of our team prepared a dancing show. It was based on ancient Greek dances and music and it was presented at the closed stadium of Pyrgos to a lot of people as after our show there would be student athletic events. Icelandic travel diary about Palermo

Meeting in Palermo

On the 15. of March we started our journey to Palermo. The students Oliwia Czerwonka, Þóra Björg Ingvarsdóttir, Breki Freyr Albertsson. The teachers Anna María Kortsen Þorkelsdóttir, Jóhanna Rakel Sveinbjörnsdóttir, and Bogi Franzson.  After three air flights, we landed at Palermo in the evening. The students met their „foster families, and the teachers went to their hotel.

The next day the program began with a speech from the headmaster following presentations from all the participating countries.  After lunch, we visited the old Norman Palace and the program ended around five o’ clock in the afternoon.

The second day we went by bus to Monreale on Monte Caputo. There we visited a beautiful Cathedral. Magnificent wall tiles (mosaic) and the buildings were a mixture of Norman and Arabic architecture. We had a workshop in creating patterns.

On the third day we divided the group into two, one group visited a house where they were repairing paintings. The other visited a church where they were repairing some decorations inside. After lunch, we had the afternoon free.

On the fourth day, we visited two places in the morning. The Massimo Theatre and the National Museum of Sicily. The meeting room in the theater was very interesting, especially how the sound echoed. In the National Museum, there were a lot of old objects, but the turtles in the fountain stole the scene. After the break, we went to the Palatine Chapel where we visited both the Chapel and the monastery.

On the fifth day, we all met at school. We danced and had lunch together in the gym hall. And after that students went to their „home“ and enjoyed the last evening.

The goodbyes were difficult, a lot of tears but it was good to get to know new friends and to visit the homes of Sicily.

1st LTT in Palermo- Art and Science photos and video

The 1st Ltt took place in Palermo. Among other workshops our students tried to take photos and videos of all the monuments and spots they visited and made impression to them in order to create a photo show and a short video about the Art and Science spots in Palermo.

Travel diary of the Italian course

During the last day of the course held in Palermo, the Erasmus students, in pairs, wrote a travel diary covering, among other things, their experiences and feelings. These postcards, realized during the writing workshop, represent a way to monitor the project and understand how much the students have enjoyed the experience. The results were all positive and some students had fun adding special graphics effects to the postcards. Enjoy the reading!

Italian memories of Palermo course from 15 to 21 March: travel diary, fractals creative lab, restoration lesson, seppo game

The course held in Palermo from March 15th to March 21st 2018 met the general objectives and was a stimulating experience for our school.

Students realized the close relationship between Geometry, Chemistry, Architecture and Restoration, they treated the fractals in the computer lab by means of an informatics application and then they looked at them on the plans of the Palatine Chapel and in the apses of the Cathedral of Monreale.

Later they made fractal models that were exhibited in the final exhibition. The students also studied the conic sections found in many artistic buildings such as theaters and churches and understood how the sound spreads better through these sections.

In the Academy of Fine Arts, in the Diocesan Museum and in the Oratory of S. Salvatore, the students met experts in restoration and in some cases they had the opportunity to carry out small activities of true restoration.

They also visited Santa Caterina where there is a restoration workshop and the Teatro Massimo which has a circular construction.

During the second TPM meeting teachers showed the platforms created, organized the second LTT in Iceland and shared the results.

We can say that the atmosphere among the teachers and between the students and the teachers was cheerful and fruitful and we will never forget this experience.

When you start studying mathematics you often approach difficult and boring concepts, but is it true?

We think it is a matter of perspective, but we studied fractals and conic sections to highlight the fascinating aspects of science. A new revolutionary idea of geometry explains the complexity of nature.

The fractal is a geometric shape characterized by the repetition of the same model on an ever smaller scale. A mountain, a coral, a plant are made up of smaller parts of similar shapes repeated endless times.

It is therefore a way to grasp the concept of infinity in nature, which has inspired literature, art and science. Fractal geometry is able to describe complex objects that are more common in nature than triangles or cubes. The whole universe is a large fractal, the same universe expressed by Heraclitus, that is chaos in order.

Let’s see how our students studied fractals and conic sections during the first day of mobility in Palermo
